Checking one of my sites (below) on PageSpeed Insights and I get this note:

    Avoid large layout shift:

What is my problem and how do I fix it?

    Hi there,

When I run the test, it’s suggesting that this element is the issue:

    <header class="site-header grid-container grid-parent" id="masthead" aria-label="Site" itemtype="https://schema.org/WPHeader" itemscope="">

I believe you have a caching plugin activated on the site. Can you try disabling it to test?

    Thanks for the prompt response!

    I use Litespeed Cache.

    I have deactivated it.

I get the same reuslts on PageSpeed Insights.

Can you keep it disabled and disable all other plugins for now as well?

It also isn’t a big issue as the site performance is absolutely stellar according to the lighthouse test: https://www.screencast.com/t/ViApFqPuHmf

By all other plugins, do you include GP Premium?

You can keep that one activated.

When I load your page, I do see a flash of unstyled content which is usually caused by caching or optimization plugins.

Every plugin is deactivated but GP Premium.

Thanks. I just ran the test again and the issue seems to be resolved: https://www.screencast.com/t/VRrLVfhncM0m

The flash of unstyled content issue seems to be gone as well.

I still believe the issue is coming from the caching plugin and would recommend checking with their support team.

The theme itself should not have any layout shift issue.

    Thanks!

I will activate a few plugins at a time and see what happens.

Okay, here is where I get to look d-u-m-b: the issue wasn’t the Litespeed Cache plugin, it was the Super Cache for Cloudflare plugin that I installed the latter several weeks ago.

I intended to experiment with the settings on the two plugins and see what worked best. Then I went on vacation and when I returned home, I threw myself into writing.

And forgot about Super Cache for Cloudflare!

I have removed this plugin and the shift disappeared. So, all seems well at this time.

    Again, thanks for your assistance!
