• Clone by Migrate (or is it Migrate by Clone?) appears to have been excellent software. Unfortunately, I believed them (THEY DO write very well) when they said their NEW software was Much better.

Not judging by the results. I followed their clear instructions – albeit ones with several big holes where you’re forced to go with “They must have meant….”; got no error or warning messages but wound up WITHOUT the restore having any effect.

Because (understandably) they provide no support to their non-premium customers AND to warn off anyone with my not very demanding requirement: I was with a single host but hoping to clone a simple WP site to a “new domain name.” Yes, I know that’s not as simple as back it up/now restore it either to the same or a different host where foobar.com would resolve before the restore begins…. Still, the too brief documentation led me to believe it could handle it. It could not!

When you work through the menus and see tons of “this feature is still on our drawing boards,” um – that doesn’t wash. I’ve heard “fake it ’til you make it,” but not with a WP plugin.

The only reason for a non-one-star rating is that I really believe this COULD BE good software – maybe, in a month; maybe, it’ll take 6 months. It (the functionality) is VERY VALUABLE, so maybe they’re en route to building “a better mousetrap.” Alas, as of mid-Jan. 2022, it shouldn’t even be in the WP “store.”

Hi @petersohn, thank you for your feedback!

    Let me address your points:

Because (understandably) they provide no support to their non-premium customers

Could you please do me a BIG favor and have a look at the support forum at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/backup-backup/? If you see the level of details in the answers we give, I think it’s fair to say that it’s one of the best supported plugins (also the free version) in the WP directory. Only the threads from the last 2 days haven’t been answered yet, simply because it was weekend ?? We’ll answer them later today.

Still, the too brief documentation led me to believe it could handle it. It could not!

Maybe let’s go straight to the issue you faced (the plugin works without issue for the overwhelming number of cases, so there seems to be a specific issue in your case), so that we can help you to solve it, entirely for free. For that, could you please open a new thread on https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/backup-backup/ and copy the logs there you got when you tried to do the restore? Thank you!

I’m much calmer now, because (a) I was able to clone … using your older software!; and (b) you wrote – so supportively and eliminated my misconception that you were offering this software way too much in advance of its being ready…. I should say that unlike Migrate/Clone where the key instruction “Copy this URL – you’ll be using it to restore” worked like a charm, I did not even see a place to do so when using your newer sftw. Instead I wound up downloading the zip created in Part A and supplying it from my local drive in Part B. Now I’m on the fence whether your instructions were faulty … or I missed something…. As for the logs, I’ve seen many forums (often anti-hijack ones) where people copy & paste hundreds of lines. I’m not sure where to look, what to clip & where to put it, but I will if you guide. Perhaps, there’s a link you can provide that answers this, because I’m sure it’s come up numerous times in the past. Hope we can resolve it and I can amend my review! It’s clear my concluding “optimism” in it was more than justified…. I know you’re busy, and you needn’t engage on this, but listing 20 or 50 “features” with the footnote “Not developed yet – buy NOW” strikes me as ill-advised.

Thank you for your response, I’m happy you’re calmer now ??

    For both your points…

    > I did not even see a place to do so when using your newer sftw.

    > [Logs:] I’m not sure where to look

…I made a quick video: https://monosnap.com/file/ZcJItZiQErjFgpYHOTbOdzN9JEcsPV. Please let me know if that clarifies it. Thank you!

(If you don’t want to do it on your site, but on a demo site, you can spin one up on https://tastewp.com as I did in the video)

Nick clarified via his video how you can get the URL and logs.
As technician I’d like to offer my help ??

The place where you can put your logs is here:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/backup-backup/#wp-bbp_topic_content-wrap

It’s at the very bottom of “Support Topics” forum.

Since Monday up to Friday Afternoon, you can expect response within 24 hours.
I always try to respond as quick as possible during the day.

It’s difficult to make plugin that works everywhere.
