psuedo tag not working

When using an actual excerpt all is well. But when I leave the excerpt blanc and use the <!–more–> psuedo tag the plugin will just fill up onto x-amount of text before showing the a.excerpt-read-more
It should work with similarly with the <!–more–> right?
