Hi!
I’m having trouble with installing WordPress in a site. I’m doing it manually from CPanel.
I have downloaded WordPress from https://www.ads-software.com/download/, uploaded the zip file to the File Manager, and unzipped it. Then I have moved the files to public_html.
After that, created database and user. Then configured wp-config.php (DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD).
When I want to run the installation, I use https://www.mezarac.com/wp-admin/install.php but I get this: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’, expecting ‘&’ or variable (T_VARIABLE) in /home1/mezarac/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1064

I have done this 3 times following the steps of 3 different tutorials. And I have done this installation in other sites before and this didn’t happen.

I don’t get what is wrong here. Could you help me, please?

Did you specifically download the files from https://www.ads-software.com/download/ ?

Have you modified them in any way?

And, are you following the steps at https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/how-to-install-wordpress/#detailed-instructions ?

Also, if you’re on a cPanel hosting provider, it’s possible that they already have a built-in WordPress installer, usually either something in cPanel named “WordPress,” “Softaculous,” or “Fantastico.”

I have the same problem. Downloaded from https://www.ads-software.com/download/.

It seems like whm wasn’t updating the php version correctly.

What version of PHP are you running?

I was experiencing the same issue and on checking the php version in use i noted that cpanel was using version 5.2 .I have changed this to 7.1 and the error cleared .

Yeah, we started requiring PHP 5.6.20 or higher back with WordPress 5.2, but we recommend PHP 7.3 or higher if you can do that: https://www.ads-software.com/about/requirements/

I have the same problem. I tried to update the PHP version which was 5.2.14
I will wait for the update and try again

Updating PHP from 5.4 to 7.2 solved the problem
