If the changes annoy you as much as they annoy me, I have found a way to get your titles to post without having to “Custom Message” every time, especially if you’re using the mobile platform and Custom Message is not an option.

Here’s what I have been forced to do, as I find this to be quicker than having to go in Facebook and clean up the mess Publicize leaves behind:

Create your post in WordPress just like you normally would, choosing your category and adding tags and everything. Before publishing your new post, cut the text from the body and then Publish it. Yes, you just created a new post with an empty body. This forces Publicize to use only the data in the title like before! Then edit the post you just created and paste the body back into it and “Update” it.

    You’re welcome!!!!!

    WHYYYYYY

Finally found a plugin that worked best to push wp articles to FB but we definitely don’t want all the text in the FB posts.

…chiming in on this thread so I can keep track of updates…

mitchellalerts: BRILLIANT – thank yooou! I’ve found it helps to use the Text window for your work-around, versus the Visual window.

Jetpack: the issue with too much copy being posted takes a lot of shine off the plug-in, for those of us who rely on Fb posts to drive site traffic. Most traffic originates from mobile, and if 2/3 of the blog post is included in the Fb post good luck with getting a click-through. The fact that the post also advertises there are x number of words is also a great DIS-INCENTIVE for today’s busy mobile user.

Now, we’ve found that using the Custom Message window makes for a better Fb post, but a terrible Twitter post.

Hello just wanted to say that Publicize posts the whole post despite the existance of a custom excerpt, in fb. You can see the post here (which btw it was a scheduled post and had to manually edit it). Also though i set up shortlinks to be enabled, the whole links is being shared.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Publicize posts the whole post despite the existance of a custom excerpt, in fb.

In your example, I only see an excerpt of your post. If you’d like to see a custom excerpt above the post preview, I’d suggest entering a custom Publicize message in the Publicize box appearing right above the Publish button in the post editor.

Also though i set up shortlinks to be enabled, the whole links is being shared.

That’s indeed the expected behaviour. Publicize shares the full permalinks on purpose. We used to share shortlinks in the past, but switched to full permalinks after it was requested by several Jetpack users.

We do intend on adding more options allowing you to customize the look of the Publicized posts in the future. You can follow our progress on this here:

Can someone please give us a little help to fix this?

At least tell us where in the code is the format set and witch lines of code we need to comment so that we can get just the attachment.

Please! Tell us how to fix it!

    just the attachment.

I want Publicize to share just the link to my posts on facebook, no title no excerpt… Just the url to my post.

@0bot That can’t be done yet. Publicize is triggered from WordPress.com servers, so you won’t be able to edit code there to change the behaviour of the Publicize module.

At this point, I’m afraid I can only recommend that you manually set a custom Publicize message as I explained above, or subscribe to the GitHub issue I linked to earlier to get updates as soon as we make progress on this.
