    Could you tell me more about that post, and how it was published? Did you use the dashboard editor, or a third-party app? Did you publish it right away, or schedule it?

    It would be useful if you could post some links to the posts where you experienced the issue, as well as more details about your site setup, the different plugins you use, and whether you use WordPress’ default scheduling system or your own custom Cron job. You can find that out by editing the wp-config.php file on your site, and searching for mentions of cron.

    Hi Jeremy,

    The post was written using the dashboard editor, it was saved as a draft while I worked on it but published immediately when it was ready.

    I don’t have any Cron jobs, my wp-config.php file doesn’t mention anything about cron at all… I don’t even know what it is ??

    Thanks for the extra details.

    Before I start, I should mention that I receive 404 errors when trying to access those posts right now. That’s probably something you’ll want to fix.

    It seems that none of those posts were synchronized with WordPress when they were published. I scheduled a full synchronization of your posts, that should complete within the next few hours.

    In the meantime, could you tell me more about the Capability Manager Enhanced plugin you use on your site? Did you use that plugin to make any changes to the roles of the authors who publish your posts?
    What happens when you deactivate that plugin? Does this help in any way?

    I have no idea why my posts are 404… Every post on my site is now showing 404…. Arhhhhhh…. Need to figure this out ASAP but as far as I was aware it was all fine last night! What’s happened?!?!

    I’m not sure. That depends on your setup.

    In your list above, you mentioned the Clean Slugs plugin. Could that have an impact on your permalink structure? Does everything seem correct under Settings > Permalinks in your dashboard?

    What’s weird is I haven’t changed anything to my knowledge. I’ve got my hosting tech support looking into it.

    This is freaking me out… it seems to be working again now. But my web host tells me they haven’t done anything, and I certainly haven’t!

    ……

    So, it’s just a gremlin… or someone isn’t telling the truth!

    Anyway, it appears to be working (for now at least). I’ll try and answer your question about later, it’s almost 1am and I need some sleep!

    Hi Jeremey,

    I don’t know if you’re still following this thread, but the Capability Manager Enhanced plugin can be found here:

    It allows you to customise what the user roles can do and also allows you to create new user roles. I don’t think I’m actually using this plugin now, I seem to recall adding it so I could allow contributors to upload images, something that WordPress doesn’t allow. I only have Admins and Authors now though so I should probably disable it anyway!

    Interestingly, the last post that went up last night DID get pushed out to my social feeds via publicize. I don’t know what changed to enable that… I’ll leave everything as it is for now and try posting new articles today.

    All posts made today have been pushed to social media streams, but the period between 19/08 and 30/08 nothing went out. Yet I didn’t change anything on my end….

    I reported the 404 issue to my host who said they did nothing but said they are working fine. When I checked, they were working again.

    My suspicion is that my host had done something funky with their server setup that caused all the issues that they won’t admit to. They might be telling the truth, but I can’t see how all my problems were solved only after I emailed them. Just seems a bit of a coincidence to me…?

    It’s hard to say for sure. I’m just glad it’s all working now! What happens when you activate Capability Manager Enhanced back? Do the problems come back?

    I never actually disabled it, because by the time I got the 404 issue resolved Publicize was working for me again. I probably will remove it though because I’m not using any of its features, it’s just a legacy thing.
