For the “Show submit buttons on post edit form” I only have selected “Publish” and “Cancel”.

If the User edits a Published article (which they can do with the Allow users to change status from Published setting), then they get no buttons. I can roughly see the logical path to fix this (Give the user Save, and make all saved things default to published), but it’s just a bit weird.

A user should always be able to save, and on validation errors post is saved, but not published

    can’t change this

Well, I’m given the option of deselecting/not displaying the “Save” button.

I’m not suggesting the user not be able to Save, I’m suggesting that, when the article is Published, that the Publish button should still appear so the user can republish it.
