When I add a listing/member to my Directory, the confirmation email gets sent to me (admin) instead of the user/member I am adding. This used to work correctly but now it doesn’t. Email notifications are set to notify the user via email when their listing is published.

    Hi @gennifer1

Thank you for reaching out about this. I’m sorry to hear that you ran into issues with this!

There is a setting for which email address should be used when sending notifications under Directory > Settings > Email called Try listing’s email field first, then author’s email. Can you please check to be sure that’s set?

Also, when you publish the listing are you assigning the WordPress user as the author and not yourself?

Please check?that and let me know if you run into more issues.

Thank you. That setting is correct.
I am managing the listings in the directory—meaning I am adding and removing based on their membership. So I am the user and the author.
    Please advise.

    Hi @gennifer1

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

When you create the listing, you should change the Author field to be the correct listing owner. Can you please try that and see if it works?

I don’t think you understand. I am the only one creating listings for our membership directory. The “listing owner” does not have access to the back end of the directory——they are not a user.

When I try to change the Author field, the only options are the WordPress Users, which are myself and another admin person.

    Hi @gennifer1

    Thanks for your message.

I have tested this under the following conditions:

    1. Me, as the site admin, adding a listing from the front-end for a user
    2. Having the Try listing’s email field first, then author’s email setting checked

And I received the email at the listing’s email field address.

I have also tested this by adding a listing from the back-end for a user with the same settings but did not receive an email. I have logged this for the developer to review — this may be by design, but I’ll double-check.

We always recommend adding a listing from the front-end of the site so that the listings are set up properly. Adding a listing from the back-end allows you to miss fields, like the fee plan, which sets many parameters for a listing, including when it expires and how many images it can have, among other things.

Thank you for reporting the issue!

We don’t allow our organization members to add themselves to the directory on the front-end. We manage the online directory, and only add listings/members from the back-end once they have paid their membership dues.

This email feature used to work fine. It only stopped emailing the listing email address recently, within the last 3-4 months.

    Hi @gennifer1

I completely understand! I’ve already submitted the bug report so a developer will be taking a look at this shortly!

Just FYI, you don’t have to allow members access to add listings from the front-end to use the front-end submission form. It sounds like you have the Add a Listing button disabled, correct? If so, you can create a private page on your site for adding the listing submission form using the [businessdirectory-submit-listing] shortcode, or by simply bookmarking the URL for listing submission, which is yoursite.com/directory-name/?wpbdp_view=submit_listing

I hope that helps as a temporary workaround. Thanks again for reporting this!

Hello. I tried a test listing from the front-end using the shortcode as you suggested. I received the “Pending” email at the listing email address, but after approving/publishing the listing from the back-end, did NOT receive an email. I have those settings set to receive an email for both. Is there another way to approve/publish the listing that will result in a sent email to the listing address?

    Hey @gennifer1

I’m sorry you’re still running into issues with this! I just tested this on a dev site and I did receive both emails.

For email issues with the plugin, it’s usually best to verify some things about your server, because in our experience, email problems stem from the server configuration more than anything.

Here’s an article about email delivery that you should try, including a plugin to install to track the outgoing email to confirm that it’s being sent: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/understanding-and-fixing-email-problems/

Once you confirm that, it means that the email is either failing to be delivered by the server or something outside of the plugin. We use the standard mechanism for email sending through WP, but once it’s sent, it’s outside of our control.

Please try that and let me know what you find.
