• As per the title, I have to send the manual updates, because otherwise the plugin does not update the feed by itself (unlike what happens with the other plugins I have used)

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi Notipedia,

Do you have GN Publisher enabled right now? When I try to access the feed, I’m getting a 404,

    Please check now

It looks like the feed is working correctly, but it doesn’t look like Google has ever accessed that url.

A couple of questions to help identify the issue.

What do you mean when you say you have to update it manually?

What is an example url that you have listed for a section url in your Publisher Center?

Is your Publication currently live or in draft or under review status?

    1. My publication is active
    2. By manual update I mean that I have to enter the publisher center, click on “edit” in the section relating to google news (where, of course, I am approved and published) and click on the update button of the rss link. If I don’t, the feed updates after several hours (sometimes an hour, other times 5 or 6 hours)
    3. The link I use is the following ” https://goalnews.it/feed/gn/? ”

What do you mean with ” it doesn’t look like Google has ever accessed that url.”

Normally when Google fetches a feed, it will say so and provide some diagnostics here:

    https://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/topic-details?hub.url=https%3A%2F%2Fgoalnews.it%2Ffeed%2Fgn%2F%3F+

though in your case, it says it has never fetched it. That’s unusual considering it is fetching it when you hit that refresh button.

I’m pondering what might be going on…

Are you sure? I’ve tried different websites with this url, none of them is fetched…

Yep, I’ll try to trigger it through that and let’s see what we get,

    Chris

If you look at that link now, that’s what I would have expected.

Give it about 15 minutes and let’s see if that section updates in your Publisher Center,

    Chris

Or I guess in your case, test it when you next publish to see if it updates. Do give it ten minutes or so after you publish for the Publisher Center to update your publication,

I didn’t get it… Do i have to leave that page open and check if something have changed after my feed update? What do you mean?

hmmm, okay, I see that emptied out and went back to it showing that there have been no fetches.

I didn’t expect this to be an issue, but it might be the trailing ? that is causing the problem. I just tested without it – https://goalnews.it/feed/gn/ and that seems to be updating okay.

I would suggest removing the ? from the url in the Publisher Center, be sure to save the changes, then check to see if it updates without you needing to refresh it the next time you publish.

And no, you don’t normally need to go to websubhubbub or the Publisher Center after publishing. It’s all designed to update automatically as you publish with no further action required from you, just something isn’t working right, and it may be the ? that’s throwing it off,

    Chris

@christopheran I have a similar problem. Google news is not updating the article list automatically. When I go to Publisher Center and there in the section settings I click Refresh then new articles become visible immediately.
I can see in the GN Publisher settings that the plugin pings Google News.
Maybe Google has changed something and no longer accepts these pings?

After testing, I’m pretty sure it was the ? throwing things off on the original issue.

Yours may be something different. WP forum mods are pretty strict about keeping issues and reported problems on separate threads/topics. Would you mind starting a new thread about the problem you are having and, if you don’t mind, include the url of a feed you are having trouble with? That will help me diagnose things,

    Chris

It started working on its own. If the problem returns, I will create a new topic.

Okay, I wonder if something was going on on Google’s end, thanks ??
