• When I click “publish”, the browser acts like it’s going to proceed and refresh my page so I can see the “successfully published!” message but nothing ever happens. However, the post does appear on my site and in my posts list.

More specifically, I get this “The website encountered an error while retrieving https://twistedrocket.com/wp-admin/post.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.”…

This comes up EVERY time but the post always gets published!

Solutions with STEP BY STEP instructions would be appreciated as I’m not too WordPress-savvy as of yet!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    hi,

i had this problem before,to solve this problem you must get to your ftp

use filezilla to access your server:

    goto wp-includes >> find and open functions.php

goto the last line line of the file, you’ll find a blank line, delete it save your file and overwrite functions.php

    you’re done !

see if you have a file called .maintenance in the root of your wordpress. Delete it

@mcfreder: That’s not good advice. No one should ever hack core WordPress files unless they really, really, know what they’re doing. Not only can you potentially compromise your site’s security but one wrong addition or deletion and you can bring your entire site down in an instant.

Just did this – and it looks like WP Stats is what’s doing it. WP Stats hasn’t been working for a while either. I deactivated everything and tried to post a tester – worked great. Activated WP Stats and tried – and it failed again. Deactivated WP Stats and activated another one – it worked fine.

Found the culprit – thanks everyone!

@esmi: i’ve been on wordpress for 7 years, any questions ?

listen twistedrocket1, if my tip didn’t work, then try to deactivate, your cache plugin, and you’ll get your website on, so you have two tips now, the fonctions.php blank line in the bottom and the cache plugin.
    good luck !

@mcfreder: It’s not your experience I’m questioning. It’s the experience of anyone who might read this topic in the weeks and months ahead. Many of those people will not be skilled in using PHP and can quite easily remove more than they should. Or use something like Word to edit a PHP file. Been There, Seen It.

So I think it’s only right to include warning and information about backing up & editing files with any suggestion of core file edits. Plus a note that it should really only be attempted by experienced users.
