Pulling recent through Blog Excerpt and Thumbnail to Home

I am wanting to pull through 3 blog excerpts to my hompage along with Thumbnails, But the Thumbnails and the excerpts are in different divs on the page, so am looking for the php to pull through the 3 most recent thumbnails and then the 3 most recent excerpts, separate bits of code for each.
