Pulling thumbnails into sidebar

I’m wondering if anyone has any knowledge of how to pull a thumbnail from a Page into the sidebar. For my portfolio site I’d like to be able to pull the most recent page created there and have an excerpt of that page shown, plus a thumbnail.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, that would be fabulous. Thanks!
