• I don’t know if it’s me, wordpress, or the squible theme I’m using but ‘it’ won’t place two spaces after a full stop in the text on my blog. It makes it difficult to read long passages of text.

Does anyone know a cure or work-around?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Which editor are you using? I know it’s been mentioned on the WP.com forums and it seems to be an issue with TinyMCE, the rich text editor. Since that’s an out of house product which we can’t change over there, we just suggest to folks to switch over to the normal text editor at Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile -> The check box at the bottom of the page.

    Hope this helps,

I don’t think it’s possible. I guess it’s the nature of the web – it never displays more than one “spaces” in a webpage.
If it is about the blog in your profile: I can assure you it’s redable. Not in this case, but generally what you can do: increase line-height, letter spacing, font size.

[BTW, the rest of the world that doesn’t type in English has never had this 2-spaces mechanical* typing rule ?? – and they still can read it]

Actually, the two spaces after a hard stop limitation found on the web is something which has always bothered me too. Seeing as I was taught to type with it, and I do find it more readable, it’s always been odd that it’s simply not supported. Based on HTML standards, any amount of whitespace counts as a single space.

Some external editors can get around it by inserting    after each sentence, but this is a major pain since then your HTML ends up somewhat unreadable.

    Thanks for the quick replies!

I’ve turned off the ‘visual rich editor’ in my profile and I’ll see how I get on. I’ll update here again in a week or so in case anyone else has the same problem.
