Does punctuation affect keywords? My very basic testing reveals that it does not, and the following all have the same search results in google:

    child support self employed
    child support self-employed
    child support: self-employed

However, Rank Math appears to treat them as different keywords – assuming punctuation does not affect ranking, could keywords be treated the same when punctuation varies?

    Thanks, Carl.

    Hello @carl314

    Thank you for your message.

Yes, the Rank Math plugin checks for an exact match when doing the content analysis.

You can follow the following guide to reach 100:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/score-100-in-tests/

But please stay advised that these tests are just guidelines and one does not need to follow them religiously.

At the end of the day, the content needs to be written for the readers and not for the search engines.

Scoring higher points in Rank Math’s tests won’t guarantee higher rankings.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, please let us know. We are here to assist.

I understand that content need to be written for viewers, but my underlying my question is the problem that when I write for the viewer, google recognizes it as okay, but your Rank Math score says I’m not using the keywords enough.

Sure – ignore the score. But why not have it both ways? Is the reason Rank Math treats keywords different from search engines a technical limitation, or is there some advantage to doing it this way that I’m not understanding?.

    Hello @carl314

    Sorry for the confusion.

We have not implemented that due to speed concerns. As these scores do not matter much, adding calculations on the user’s end would make the plugin slower.

With that being said, there are existing feature requests, so we’ve added your vote to our internal suggestions lists. If your suggestions are something that we’re able to introduce, we’ll be sure to let you know.

    Thank you.
