I am running WP2.0.4 with K20.9 mod. (Please don’t tune out! I’m pretty sure this is a WP question and not a K2 question! Besides, the K2 forum is temp down…I’d really appreciate any help…)

Anyways, in K2, pages show up automatically in the nav menu which I really like. It’s really easy to switch the order and to have static pages like a “contact” or “links” page show up in the menu.

I want to have custom category pages with sticky text at the top show up as pages in the nav menu. I read the codex about how to create custom category templates, and I’m ok with doing that. But I’m having difficulty applying the templates to a page. I tried sticking the code in a custom template but when I apply it to the page, the loop breaks for some reason. I’ve had all kinds of different errors, it even broke my whole site at one point, to where I couldn’t even get into the admin, which was really scary.

I have a feeling I’m overcomplicating things in the way I am trying to go about this. So my question is, how do I create a page which then calls a category page as its content? Because if I can do that, I’ll be set.

    Thanks!

  • I am sure it would be easier to manage the navbar to show your categories, which means to use category templates… than to “force” WP to do something that doesn’t like (i.e. sticking cat template in a Page).

Ok, so just to clarify, I should:

    1) create custom category templates for all the categories I want.
    2) Change navbar to display categories as links in the nav menu.

In that case, I do have a K2 issue, since k2 uses pages to populate the navmenu. Shouldn’t be impossible, though, as I know K2 has an option to make “Archives” first on the menu.

Thanks, I guess I have to wait until the K2 forum comes back up for help.
