put posts section and sidebar section into one background

    so my website ( https://www.citizenstars.com ) theme has the posts and sidebar in their own section

    i want to put them together under one background, that can customized in css, for example if i want to change the background color

    here is an example of what im trying to achieve, you can see the posts and widgets sections are merged, and lay on top of a white background:
