putting < and > in the headers of my widget boxes

I want to be able to put a few “code” type symbols in the header of my widgets, but every time i do that, it removes it.

if you look at the left column at the second box, you can see the I have this:
i /<3 stuff

I used the / in hopes that it would escape the < and just show it.. I also tried using the codex
< = <

That resulted in just the letter i showing..

How do i get this to show on my header?!!
