Qtranslate plugin

I have just installed the qtranslate plugin and seem to have problems translating some parts of the site for instance some of the headings in the sidebar. It seems to have to do with the gettext and language tags. Does anyone know anything about this or could tell me exactly what I should do? I’m quite a beginner at this. Thanks!
