    I would need a slider which shows short aphorisms / maxims (my own text) one (or two) at the time. (They are not from published posts / pages). I have tried smooth slider (dont work for this purpose), simple guate rotator and flexible quote rotator plus, which do not appear in sidebar, so they can not be used. Most quate rotators are over two years old and not suitable. Any hints?

    After loading it Flexible quote rotator plus do not appear in sidebar, but you can find it in tools and settings. Using widgets (instead of codes) I got it working in a sidebar.
