• When upgrading from 2.8.1 to 2.8.2 I get an “installation failed” error since the automatic upgrade cannot write to the themes directory. That is no coincidence, neither my question. What I wonder about is: does the upgrade stop when the new default themes cannot be added (and does anything ‘come after it’?) or is the upgrade completed safe for that one thing? I’m on 2.8.2 now, but this can of course be that the version.php was copied and only half of the rest.
Unlying question: what exactly does the auto upgrade do?

My question stays. Does the autoupgrade stop at the point where it wants to upload the themes or does it continue without upgrading the themes?

    interesting question
let me give it a few tries on my test server and see what happens
    I’ll let you know

Thanks! That good old WPAU plugin was very specific about what it did, I would love to see that in the built in upgrader too… Another idea perhaps.

Upgrading. Boy I would like if somebody told us what the upgrade does exactly.

Wow, the frequency of upgrading increases ??
I might of course just change the file permissions of the theme folder to make 100% sure that everything goes as planned, but on the other hand, the error does not result in misbehavior, not even upgrading from 2.8.6 to 2.9.
But still, I would love to hear how the auto upgrade works. Perhaps also in the new combination with the plugins upgrade. What comes first, etc.
