    Hi everyone,

    One question for the developers:

The limit for social media message autoposting is 255 characters. I do understand according to this thread that that limit is there for platform limits compliance.

The 255-character limit is in place to ensure compatibility with the character restrictions of various social media platforms, aiming to streamline the sharing process across different networks. We understand that this limit might not suit all your needs.

For X (formerly Twitter), no problem, but for Instagram Business, where focus is on the picture, one might need a little bit more of text to give context to the post.

Is there a way around this, such as establish the limit on a platform per basis?

It is not a bug, or a problem with the plugin, I’m just asking if it is possible.

    Best regards,

    Luis

Hey @luispico – thanks a lot for reaching out to us and for sharing your feedback.

From what I read in your request, it sounds like the most efficient way to create a feature request here. Our dedicated team will take a look at that and get back to you with questions or feedback if needed.

    Hope that helps! ??

Hey Luis, thank you for your prompt action and for opening the feature request.

I saw the request you opened on GitHub, and it appears the team is considering it. While I can’t guarantee that it will be implemented in the next release, there’s a good chance you’ll see this improvement in one of the future releases of the Jetpack plugin.

We appreciate your feedback and patience as we work to make Jetpack even better! If you have any further suggestions or questions, feel free to reach out.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry to bump this old post, but it seems it went stale in Github.

As I mentioned there, I do understand that my user-case is not the norm.

Please do note that some platforms require the link to the post to be included in the message for it to be actionable (click on the link/featured photo to go to the actual post). I my particular user case (long form posts, a descriptive title, hashtags and squeezing in two languages to avoid doble posting) with WordPress posts set to?Scheduled?to match a different timezone, it is very complicated to achieve a result that is effective. As noted on?#17223, one option would be to disable the hard-coded character limit and warn the user that the message will be truncated when the limit set by the social media platform is reached. I can tweak a Twitter post to respect the 280 character limit -it is what it is- but be able to use the larger limits from other platforms.

And #261 is not the answer I was looking for. I do not know if I made my request clear and understandable enough.

    • Platform Character Limit
    • X (formerly Twitter) 280 characters (can be increased with premium subscription)
    • Facebook 63,206 characters for posts, 200 characters for status updates
    • Instagram 2,200 characters for captions
    • LinkedIn 1,300 characters for status updates, 2,000 characters for summaries
    • YouTube 100 characters for video titles, 5,000 characters for video descriptions
    • Threads 500 characters
    • Bluesky 280 characters

Hey @luispico – We have received an update from the team regarding the situation. Unfortunately, there isn’t an immediate solution available at this time. However, please rest assured that our team is actively working on finding a resolution as quickly as possible. While we are unable to provide a specific timeline at the moment, once the fix is deployed, you will get an update on the issue you have opened on GitHub.

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. I understand that the development team has urgent, important things that are top priority, and I appreciate that their time is used wisely.

As I have tried to explain in my posts here and on GitHub, I know the limitations and uses of the social media platforms:

    • Tweeter: Hey, new article here / Excerpt—>280 characters
    • Facebook: Hey new article here. In it we talk about X, Y and Z—>2000 characters, for example

I do not know if I am explaining myself as well as I think. Not priority, I know, but would be nice.

Best regards, and thanks for the time and effort.

    Luis

Hey Luis – Yes, once the team updates the feature to include character limits, they will align those limits with the requirements of each social media platform. It’s likely they’ll also indicate these limits within the editor, so users can see how much of their post will be published. Let’s wait for this update to go live, and if we identify further improvements afterward, we’ll be sure to implement them. ??
