• Hey,

My first site is on WordPress.com and free. I have then opened a second site on a web hosting company using www.ads-software.com as my platform.

Can I just keep everything on WordPress.com, then use it like using Flickr or Photobucket and then link the URL’s to my www.ads-software.com site when I need some of the same images or video. Almost using it as file sharing and storage.

    Thanks

You’d have to ask at wordpress.com if you can. I think you probably can from a TECHNICAL code perspective, but I have no idea about a policy violation.

Out of curiosity, why? I mean, the point of having your own server is to have your stuff on your server ??

No particular reason, it’s just that I have 1000’s of videos and pictures which I am adding to my new site and if it becomes popular, I wanted a way to spread sharing the bandwidth without it costing me too much.

Yeah, that’s kind of why I think you’d need to touch base with WP.com on it ?? I mean, someone has to pay for that bandwidth to start with ??

You may want to consider videopress, or some other off-site hosting for the media if it’s that big. But just using something for the free-ness can be bad karma. Also if they decide they don’t like it, they can delete your stuff. ??

Why don’t you export what is in the current blog and place it on your hosting site. What Ipstenu is saying is that the way you planned to do it is doubling bandwidth by getting it from your host and then still sending it through WP’s bandwidth to the reader.

It shouldn’t be that hard to configure and set up. You now have your own URL instead of using a WP address. Once you have it moved, you can delete the duplication and then put a link to your new site in the old blog to move past readers to the new site.

I don’t think it doubles your bandwidth. If I understand correctly, Aprama wants text on Site A (wp.org site) and media on Site B (wp.com), which is … actually pretty normal. I just don’t think you should use free wp.com for Site B is all.
