Question about nofollow/noindex

Hi,

Just created an XML Sitemap for my site that just went live.

I created the sitemap and it gave me all the pages.

It also gave me a page for the following:
https://mydomain.com/author/myauthorname

To the best of my knowledge – I have not come across this link before.

Do I want Google to index this type of link?
If not – how do I stop it?
(I have never dealt with noindex/nofollow before – so any detailed explanation/how-to would be appreciated i.e. do I add something to htaccess?)
