Question about roles and posted content

I have a question about roles and posted content.

I have 2 member roles. One for a free account, one for paid premium. Both are capable of publishing posts, editing posts, deleting posts, and same for their own stuff. No problems.

If a free user publishes posts and is later updated to the role for paid premium when they upgrade their account, they can’t edit any of their posts made during the former role. Is there a setting in the roles or permissions for them to still have management capabilities to their own posts regardless of what user role they have?

I cannot imagine that something so standard would not be possible. People have membership sites that allow them to publish content. They have member tiers to do more stuff and publish and access additional content. So to have no way for them to even edit stuff that is their own, regardless of role, is ridiculous.

Any solutions?
