Hi! I’m using the free version of Wordfence and wondered if the IP addresses I’ve been blocking get shared. After reading about the Real-Time Security Network, I now think they do or at least might. ??

However, while reading about the network, I read this statement:

‘ The data is aggregated on a real-time platform to determine which IP addresses are currently engaged in the most malicious activity and need to be blocked by our community. That data is then used by your site and other Wordfence protected sites to block those malicious IP addresses. ‘

So, is it possible some IP addresses engaged in hacking activity on _my_ site won’t be identified as candidates for being blocked by the community? I don’t know if this has actually happened or anything but I was curious. ??

    Thanks!

  • Hello tomdkat!

That is correct. We do not block everything that has ever been blocked because we would end up blocking a lot of stuff by mistake. We only block those attacks that we see happening with high frequency on many sites.

    Thanks for the info. ??

FYI, the Wordfence system is very forgiving. I get attacked all the time from IPs that slipped past Wordfence that are on the Spamhaus, Barracuda and other block lists. In fact, it’s a permanent feature request that Wordfence would implement something that would utilize one of those lists. MTN
