• Hello,

    I would like to have:
    – Principal blog on principal-domain.com
    – Multi-blogs and network on network-domain.com

But the same database and the ability to display posts from multisites on principal-domain.com.

The URLs of the multi-bloggers would be network-domain.com/bob-dylan for example, but the URL of the posts principal-domain.com/post

In fact, network-domain.com would be just an alias for the multi-bloggers. I had this idea because my principal-domain.com is too long for multi-bloggers: “principal-domain.com/blogs/bob-dylan” is not convenient for multi-bloggers.

Is it possible ? If not, have you got other ideas ?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english, I’m from FR ??

You would only get that if your install is actual in the /blogs/ folder.

And if it was, adding a second network would still have that foldername in the URL.

So if you’re not getting /blogs/ off the main domain, you won’t need the second domain.

Thank you very much Andrea ??

And if I would like to have another name for network, is it possible to make this alias ?

Yes, that’s what the multi network plugin helps you to do.

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-multi-network/

Andrea – I originally looked at WP Multi Network but couldn’t get it to work with WP 3.1.1. I recall coming across info that it wouldn’t work, and when I followed the installation instructions for the plugin, menu choices that should have appeared weren’t appearing for me.

    Is it compatibile?

As far as I know it is. Nothing relating to multiple networks changed in that minor of a version.

The network menu item changed location in 3.1. Even if it;s not in the right place, technically it should still work.

The plugin page says it is compatible up to 3.0, not 3.1. I wasn’t drawing the distinction at 3.1.1, just 3.0 vs 3.1.

I also came across this thread.

I played with it a little, but moved on. Maybe I did so prematurely.

Just because the ‘compat with’ says 3.0 doesn’t mean it wont work with 3.1.x

    Exactly.

    I do realize that ??

Combine reading that post + seeing the ‘compat with’ + my hands-on experience of it appearing not to work -> reasonable conclusion that it might not work, hence the request for clarification.

Makes me want to go set up a new network and see what made me think it didn’t appear to work…

probably not finding the menu ??

There’s an updated paid version that works just dandy, but I’m also the one who sells it, so disclaimer applies and all…

Not finding, as in it was there and stupid me missed it?

Or not finding, as in it needs an upgrade to appear?

If your plugin allows multiple networks, and I’ve already set things up with the MU Domain Mapping, is it tough to switch? I tend to favor long-term relationships with my plugins, but I find myself becoming more open-minded…

If you wanted to switch to a multi-network situation *any* plugin out there requires you to redo it or manually fiddle with the database, if you already created it and mapped it.

(and not finding it as in missing it)

Thanks, Andrea. You’ve made me so curious that I have to set up another network just to see how dense I was to miss it.

there’s still an off chance it’s inaccessible. ?? I’ve been known to be wrong before. ??

but… the menu location being off is easy to fix.

Let me put your wondering to rest. You might have been wrong before, but not here. I need to either make an appointment with the eye doctor or get a bigger monitor.

It was on Tools->Networks on the site dashboard.
