I am using the Twenty Twelve theme on a self hosted install and recently started using the “Expand on Click” feature of WordPress for my photography work and absolutely love it since I am no longer married to a Lightbox Plugin. The only issue is when I click on the photo from a mobile device, a blue question mark appears on the center of the photo and I suspect it has something to do with the image still loading.

I have tried disabling all plugins and also trying a new theme but the issue remains.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks @junior! Can you share your device model and browser make/version? I have tried to reproduce this on Android 14, with Firefox, Chrome, and Kiwi browser, but I haven’t been able to see the issue on these.

@properlypurple, I am seeing this on two iPhone 12 Pro Max and a iPhone 13. Any browser under iOS including Chrome and Brave will display the same behavior.

Hey @junior! I was able to test on iPhone 13 and 15, and I wasn’t able to reproduce this. I tried using BrowserStack for testing with more browsers/devices, but you seem to be blocking a lot of traffic, and it frequently ran into that error.

@properlypurple Really odd! I am blocking some traffic via Cloudflare due to my WordPress being self-hosted at home.

I guess I will just live with it them. Any suggestions on what to try?

@junior Can you try going to Tools > Site Health, then to Info. Here, please click the button Copy site info to clipboard, and use a service like Pastebin.com to share the information that’s been copied here. It’s possible there’s something in there which can shed some light on this.

Thanks for sharing this. The server environment looks fine, and ideally shouldn’t have any issues. I have some questions which might help figure out the cause.
- Can you try reproducing this on another environment? You can use WP playground or InstaWP?
- Can you reproduce this if you pause all caching/firewall in Cloudflare, or if you access the site locally, over LAN?

My iPhone 15 on the new beta is doing it, and my client’s iPhone is also doing it. It seems to be this highlight in the screenshot. (When I typed in display: none, the question mark disappeared but the photo remained)
