Question on deletions

Since the plugin copies images from the instance to s3 (or cloudfront), can the images then be deleted from the instance and they remain on the s3 server?

I’m guessing to keep wordpress from removing the record of the image in the database, it’d have to be deleted using FTP rather than the media manager.
