Question on Lazy Load and WebP
-
Hi guys,
Been reading through a few posts on here, and the answer to my question is as clear as mud – so I thought I’d add a quick enquiry:
Everywhere is raving on about these WebP image formats, saying that they load many times faster – but only if you use Chrome – as nowhere else supports it.
I’ve seen support threads all raving about WebP images, but then realising that their Lazy Load images don’t work.
I’ve seen posts from this forum and another one saying that WebP images can only be used with a CDN (I use Cloudflare) if no changes are made to .htaccess and a <picture> tag used instead – which might actually knacker up ALL the images, even though the page speed would be flying with no images ??
So keeping it simple – would it be best to kick WebP images into touch until Google, Firefox, Opera etc ALL support WebP images, and the .htaccess option is resolved?
