Hi, we are looking to build a listing platform for multiple university courses with the Sensei LMS plugin. We’ve got some questions before we proceed:
    1. Each of our courses needs to be tagged to a specific department in the university. We can’t seem to see a search filter option based on tags or categories. Does your theme have this functionality? i.e. to select Photography vs Engineering department and see the list of corresponding courses.

    2. Can you have tiered visibility access to the member/learner data, for example, public has restricted/limited access, groups have more access, and friends have the most access etc? Furthermore, can you set visibility access levels by tab, for example the activity tab is hidden to public, but courses can be seen by public etc.

    3. Can backend admin edit the members/learners tab data or content? For example course provider has marked a quiz using the Sensei LMS plugin, and we’d like to update the score on the learner/member tabs. Can this be done in the by a course teacher? And the student can see it in their front end?

    Hi there

    1. Each of our courses needs to be tagged to a specific department in the university. We can’t seem to see a search filter option based on tags or categories. Does your theme have this functionality? i.e. to select Photography vs Engineering department and see the list of corresponding courses.

You can add Course Categories to your courses and then you can add these categories to a menu, either in your site header or in a sidebar, so that people can click on the course category they want to view.

    2. Can you have tiered visibility access to the member/learner data, for example, public has restricted/limited access, groups have more access, and friends have the most access etc? Furthermore, can you set visibility access levels by tab, for example the activity tab is hidden to public, but courses can be seen by public etc.

Something like this would require a membership solution. We recommend using WooCommerce Memberships, which integrates with Sensei LMS and WooCommerce Paid Courses:

    3. Can backend admin edit the members/learners tab data or content? For example course provider has marked a quiz using the Sensei LMS plugin, and we’d like to update the score on the learner/member tabs. Can this be done in the by a course teacher? An administrator can edit the grades of any learner’s quiz if they want to. A teacher can only edit the grades for their own courses.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for your response Dan. For question 1, apart from a category menu, can we add a search box? When users type keywords of a course, the relevant course would show up? How do we go about enabling this?

Furthermore, can we add tags to courses or only lessons? Your documentation only mentions tags for lessons.

You can use a standard WordPress search box, e.g. the search widget.

Tags are for lessons only. Courses can only have categories. You’d need to customize the course post type to enable course tags.

Hi Dan, thanks for your answer. Another quick question, can we allow lessons to be graded by teachers without submissions from students. For example, most of our courses have presentations given to the entire class which are graded by teachers.

I can’t seem to find an option in your plugin to grade lessons which have been assigned to students but student did not actively submit something.

And can you grade by A,B,C,D,E etc type of grading, instead of just by percentage?

can we allow lessons to be graded by teachers without submissions from students.

There isn’t a way to do this. Grading requires a quiz submission, so the only option would be a quiz with a single question where the student can confirm that they did their presentation.

And can you grade by A,B,C,D,E etc type of grading, instead of just by percentage?

It’s only possible to have percentage grades currently.

    Marking as resolved.
