Question on side bar list previous post

  • anyone have a solution for showing in the sidebar listing only the previous posts to the current one your on.

    so say your on post # 9 the sidebar only lists the previous 1-8 .

    on post # 20 only lists 1-19.

    there has to be some query but I am lost.
