    How do I create a functions file

    Start with a blank text file called functions.php in your child theme and take it from there.

    thanks Esmi, I know not to edit the main theme and I’m certainly not planning to leave it like that (hence this post). When I couldn’t get the child to work, I tried to edit the parent to make sure that my code was right.

    Start with a blank text file called functions.php in your child theme and take it from there.

    Done that but it’s the take it from there that I’ve been stuck on for many hours.
