Just installed ShortPixel and all looks to be working fine but I have a question regarding the “Image backup”.

On the settings page, right by the checkbox, it says:
“Save and keep a backup of your original images in a separate folder.
    Usually recommended for safety.”

Why would not it be safe to not store the original file?
Is it because the links/connection to each image from there are handled by the plugin, thus, if uninstalled my site might stop displaying the images?

The reason why I was looking for image optimization solution is two fold, both equally important:

    1) Optimize images on the upload so viewing becomes faster without the user having to pre-optimize them in Photoshop.
=> I accomplished this with your plugin now.

    2) That we save space on the server and don’t have to upgrade each year.
=> With originals being saved this is not accomplished.

Thank you and please let me know your thoughts and answers,

    Stan

    Hey Stan,
    thanks for your message ??

We usually recommend the users to keep the backup option active so they feel more secure and also be able to test lossy/lossless optimization. In some rare cases our users weren’t so happy with the lossy optimization for certain images and because they had the backup option active they could try the lossless option as well very easily.

But after you used our plugin for a while and you’re happy with the results we recommend you to:
    1) empty the backup folder (there is an option to do that in Settings/ShortPixel)
    2) deactivate the backup option altogether

Please let me know if I answered your question?

    Thank you,
    Alex
