I’d like to know if this is possible, as I haven’t had much luck.

I have images full of descriptive Keywords in my Lightroom. I upload said photo to Media Library in WordPress. What I would like is for the uploaded image post to have those Keywords attached without me having to manually type in the same keywords.

Is this something that is doable with this plugin?

Thanks for your question. MLA provides several features that let you extract metadata from your images and use to populate WordPress standard fields, taxonomy terms and custom fields.

You can find a lot of information in the “IPTC & EXIF Processing Options” section of the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab. The Settings/Media Library Assistant IPTC/EXIF tab is where you can define your rules. You can also find some tips in these earlier support topics:

Importing Photoshop IPTC data into WordPress

    List of Usable IPTC Fields

For your specific question, here is an outline of what to do:

    1. Go to the Settings/Media Library Assistant IPTC/EXIF tab.
    2. If you want to apply the rule to new items as they are uploaded (recommended), check the “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when adding new media” and “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when updating media metadata ” boxes.
    3. Scroll down to the “Taxonomy term mapping” section.
    4. Locate the “Att. Tags” (or Att. Categories) rule entry.
    5. In the “IPTC Value” dropdown control select “2#025 keywords”.
    6. Leave the “EXIF/Template Value” text box blank.
    7. In the “Priority” dropdown, select “IPTC”.
    8. In the “Existing Text” dropdown, select “Replace”.
    9. Leave the Delimiter(s) text box blank.
    10. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click “Save Changes”.

Once you define the rule you can apply it to a single image, multiple images or all images:

    • To map a single image, go to the Media/Assistant submenu and click the thumbnail of the image you want (or click the “Edit” rollover action) to get the Media/Edit Media screen. You can click the “Map IPTC/EXIF metadata” link to run your rules on this image, then scroll down and look through the taxonomy meta boxes to inspect the results.
    • To map two or more images, go to the Media/Assistant submenu and click the checkbox next to the images you want. Then, select “Edit” from the “Bulk Actions” dropdown above the checkboxes and click “Apply” to open the Bulk Edit area. Click the “Map IPTC/EXIF metadata” button to run your rules on the selected images.
    • To map all of your images, stay on the Settings/Media Library Assistant IPTC/EXIF tab and click the “Map All Attachments, Taxonomy Terms Now” button. This may take a while.

I hope that gives you the information you need for your application. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer, it was very helpful.

On another note, I have not had much success in using search to look for images with multiple keywords.

    Example: Image:Keywords
    Image 1: A, B, C
    Image 2: C, D, E
    Image 3: A, B

    If I search A: I get 1 and 3
    If I search B: I get 1 and 3
    If I search C: I get 1 and 2

Is there a way to search for keywords A and C and only return Image 1? Keeping in mind that keywords may have 2 or 3 actual words in them. I don’t want to search for A or C as I would get all 3 images returned. I tried using “AND” in the search function which did not work for me.

If this goes in another post, I will be glad to send it there.

Thanks for the good words regarding my previous answers and for this new question.

You wrote “Is there a way to search for keywords A and C and only return Image 1?” If you are asking about the Search Media box on the Media/Assistant admin screen, consider using the “Terms Search” button and popup window instead; it provides more control over what you can search for. You can find detailed guidance on how to compose your search in the “Terms Search – filtering on taxonomy term names” section of the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab. To specify terms with multiple words you can enclose the term in double-quote marks. To specify multiple terms you can separate them with commas. To require a match on both terms you can select the “All terms” radio button. You can also specify the taxonomies you want to search with the checkboxes at the bottom of the popup window.

If the above suggestions don’t get you what you want, open a new topic and add as much additional information as you can. I will investigate and ensure that the “Terms Search” function is working properly and give you whatever help I can.
