    It was strictly a pro forma update of the Quick Cache plugin — or so I thought until the following message appeared:

    Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'This version of Quick Cache requires PHP v5.3+.' in /home/content/97/5860197/html/wp-content/plugins/quick-cache/quick-cache.php:19 Stack trace: #0 /home/content/97/5860197/html/wp-settings.php(203): include_once() #1 /home/content/97/5860197/html/wp-config.php(79): require_once('/home/content/9...') #2 /home/content/97/5860197/html/wp-load.php(29): require_once('/home/content/9...') #3 /home/content/97/5860197/html/wp-admin/admin.php(30): require_once('/home/content/9...') #4 /home/content/97/5860197/html/wp-admin/edit.php(10): require_once('/home/content/9...') #5 {main} thrown in /home/content/97/5860197/html/wp-content/plugins/quick-cache/quick-cache.php on line 19

    What caused this and how do I get my site back?

    I went into wp-content and deleted the Quick Cache folder and all the files therein. Got my site back. But anyone tell me why this happened in the first place?

    Thanx.

    The clue is in the error message:

    This version of Quick Cache requires PHP v5.3+

    Nudge your hosts to update the PHP on your server.

    This happened to my site as well. I also had to delete Quick Cache. We shouldn’t need to contact our hosts for a plug-in to work. I wish I had known this before I clicked to update.

    Why not? Your hosting providers control the version of the programming language that plugins are written in.

    Is this a good reason to consider changing hosts?

    Edit nvm.
