I did a quick install on my webhost, but following the instructions on the wordpress codex doesn’t work.

As far as I know the installation went without a hitch, as my webhost offers one-click install, but typing in my domain /wp-admin takes me to an error page.

Is there another way to access the backend login?

    domain is urbanamaranth.com

In general, we can’t help with specifics on hosting provider installers, as we have no control over how they function, and they all operate differently.

You *should* have received an email with the URL to log in at, most send that.

If not, do you remember what directory you told the installer to use? Most have that option, and if you choose “wordpress” as the directory for example, then it would be example.com/wordpress/wp-login.php

You could also consider accessing your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, to see exactly where the files are.

And, especially since it’s a fresh install, their installer probably allows you to delete it and install again.

Worse case, you can always access the server to delete the files and do a manual installation: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress

It looks like you have the wp-admin directory locked down with a password. So before you can even login, you’ll need to enter it.

Try urbanmaranth.com/wp-admin and then enter the login / password that you setup. If you don’t remember, then James’ suggestion might be best – set it up again, but make sure you pay attention to the areas in the install that describe the username and password. Sometimes under an ‘advanced’ tab, it will give you the option to make a password at install.

I figured it out! I had WordPress installed in the wrong directory. I got it fixed up now though, thanks a lot!
