    Pippin,

I used this plugin in the past, but remember an issue back then regarding the download link itself. I forget exactly how or what the issue was as this was about a year or so ago (but could look it up).

    The basics were this:

How is the “download link protected? Is the link obfuscated in any manner to prevent users from sharing it?

I know your FAQ talks about “sharing the link” and then filing cause to get it removed, but that is a pain.

I remember using this plugin below in the past: (not affiliate link), https://wpformarketers.com/special-offer-pricing/wp-securelink/

This plugin will generate an encrypted link, which if shared would be encoded to prevent other users from accessing it.

Would there be any issues with using these together with the newest versions? If you have no direct indication of issue then I will try it once again.

    Thanks for your help.

    EDD does several things:

    1. All links are encoded with the customer’s email, their purchase key, and an expiration date. If The link is changed in any way (alter the email or expiration), it will not validate. Links only work as long as they are not expired, and the expiration time can be set in settings.

    2. EDD stores all files uploaded to products in a special folder that is protected via .htaccess, meaning that even if someone was to obtain the plain URL to a file, it would not work.

    3. The actual location of the file is never revealed (assuming the file is located in EDD’s protected directory).

    4. File download limits can be set globally or on a per product basis. For example, if you only want your customers to download files once, you set a download limit to 1 then no one after the first download will be able to download it.

In past versions we did have some issues with files not being secure, but those have all been taken care of.
