Quick Question – Are payments on-page?

I’m looking into payment gateways and can’t find any information on whether this offers credit card/debit card payments directly on the page, or if customers will be sent to a third party site to complete payment?

For WooCommerce Square, the input fields for credit card details are embedded in the site’s checkout page as seen in the screenshot below:
