I am having trouble with the “Quick edit” and Drag & Drop.

    Problem 1:

When I click the Update button followed by “Quick Edit”, the layout of section changes. To give you an idea, here is a small video.

    Problem 2:

My second problem is that the drag and drop is not working as expected.
The only way it works by changing the order attribute, manually.

I am testing all of this on chrome 70.0.3538.77.

BTW, thanks for the plugin. I will definitely buy it in the near future.

    Hi @geoworld99!

Thanks for the video, that was really helpful in understanding the first problem. I’m able to reproduce that issue as well and we’ll fix that ASAP.

Can you clarify the second problem a bit more? Are you saying you’re not able to drag and drop the page after you use “Quick Edit” to change the order attribute? Or did you mean something else?

    Hi

I am not able to do sorting via drag and drop at all.

The way to change the page order is to manually change the order attribute value.

Feature Request: Although, I am able to organize my pages and posts. But I still have to manually create next and previous links for the pages in the folder. Consider adding this feature in the future release.

    Hi @geoworld99,

Thanks for the clarification. I’m afraid there isn’t currently a way to sort pages within folders unless you use the legacy folders page (you can enable that option in the settings) although we may add that feature in the future.

Can you clarify what you mean by needing to manually create next and previous links? I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean.

Also, we’ve fixed the first issue and that will be included in the next update.

So currently the plugin doesn’t support ordering via drag and drop. right?

Can you clarify what you mean by needing to manually create next and previous links? I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean.

    Here you go.

Most of the time pages inside a folder belong to a particular topic. Let’s say I am creating a series to teach “arduino programming”. In this case, my folder name will be “arduino programming” and all the pages inside it belong to “arduino programming”, so it makes sense to automatically create previous and next link to pages.

I hope you get the idea.

BTW, I have just updated the plugin to version 2.10.1 and still experiencing the first issue.

    Hi @geoworld99,

Correct, ordering the pages via drag-and-drop is not something the plugin does.

I’m still not quite sure I understand what you mean about the previous and next links. Are you referring to the front-end? Would it be possible for you to make a video that shows an example that shows the manual previous and next links that you previously created?

And sorry for the confusion, we haven’t released the next update yet (2.10.1 was from earlier today before we fixed the problem that you mentioned). We’ll probably release the next update later today or early next week sometime.

Yes I mean in the front-end.

    Wouldn’t it be nice?

BTW, this arrow cross sign given an illusion that the the pages are sortable via drag and drop.

So, just to clarify, are you saying you’d like to have a template function called something like get_next_item_link() and get_previous_item_link() that you could use in your theme that would return the link to the previous/next page in the folder?

I agree that that would be nice but one challenge I see is that pages can be assigned to multiple folders. So, unless you passed the folder name to the functions as well, it would be ambiguous as to which folder the previous/next link should be generated for.

    (@geoworld99)

Yes, something like get_next_item_link() and get_previous_item_link().

I agree that that would be nice but one challenge I see is that pages can be assigned to multiple folders.

Yes, that would be one use case. My use case is different and I am pretty sure no pages will be assigned to more than 1 folder.

Nevermind, it just a suggestion and would be extremely helpful for people with the latter use case.

BTW, after enabling the legacy mode, I found this page:

As you can see, this page allows us to change the sort order. But It doesn’t actually change the value of order attribute.

    This is confusing.

    Hi @geoworld99,

We’ll look into adding some previous/next template functions like you suggest.

Sorry for the confusion; the sort feature on the legacy folders page is there to allow you to sort pages within a folder (it doesn’t alter the page’s order attribute). This was a previous feature request and it doesn’t alter the page’s order attribute because a page could be ordered differently depending on the folder.

If you’re looking for the ability to sort pages using drag and drop, perhaps this plugin will do the trick:

Is there any limit on number of pages/posts a folder can contain?

    (@wickedplugins)

    No, there is no limit.
