Random Jumping (Up and Down) when Using Arrow Keys to Navigate Inside Post

  • I am encountering an issue while using the WordPress classic editor with version 6.4.1. This problem emerged a few days ago and has persisted until now.

    When I am editing an article using the arrow keys on the keyboard, the editor’s focus unexpectedly jumps up and down. If I press the right and down arrow keys, the focus jumps downwards. Conversely, when I press the left and up arrow keys, the focus jumps upwards.

    Instead of simply moving my cursor position to the right and left, the editor’s focus jumps vertically.

    This issue occurs when the article I am editing is lengthy and exceeds the editor’s visible content area.

    Hi there,

    Do you also reproduce this issue when you have no other plugins installed and using a default theme?

    Please provide as much details as you can about the environment, and please also try to flush your object caching if you have any string object cache from your end.

    Yes, this issue also occurs when all plugins have been deactivated. I am also using the default theme (Twenty Twenty Four).

    I have attempted a hard reset and cleared the browser cache, but the result remains the same (Using Chrome & Firefox). Additionally, I am not using any object cache.

    I am using PHP 8.2, and encountered the same issue with PHP 7.4 as well.

    Hey @reka000! I haven’t been able to reproduce this on Chromium and Firefox, with WP 6.4.1, and the latest version of Classic editor and Twentytwentyfour theme.

    Can you share some more information about your browser/OS environment? A good way to share this is by using Your web browser's unique URL: from the site https://www.whatismybrowser.com/ (or any similar service)

    Hey @reka000! Thanks for that.

    I haven’t been able to replicate this still. Can you check a few more things:

    • Does resizing the browser change this behaviour?
    • Does zooming in/out have any effect?
    • Do you have any browser addons that affect the pages being displayed? If yes, have you tested without them(in a private window or similar)?
    • Are you able to use a ‘Classic block‘ inside the block editor without seeing this issue?

    I’ve also had this issue using Twenty Sixteen theme and Google Chrome. It started recently.
