Hi! This is my fourth website built from ground up using WordPress and I’ve never run into this before. My hosting provider – a local firm – uses Plesk. Once logged in, I installed WP. All good. Then, from the WP install, not Plesk, I installed GeneratePress followed by the GP Child theme, used on other sites I manage. Then, I proceeded to install the GP Premium Plugin. This is where things went haywire. The site would load fine, I could begin customizing the theme and then randomly, boom, I couldn’t get to the URL, nothing. If I waited, say 30 minutes, often less, it would load fine. I decided I needed to start over and since I couldn’t access WP, I had to start over in Plesk.

So, back into Plesk, I remove everything but the 2020 theme and sure enough, it loads fine. So, I repeat the above — Install GP theme, install GP Child, install GP Premium and experienced the same result. Assuming I must have a corrupt file, I download my themes and plugins again. I create a new database in Plesk and begin with a fresh installation.

Well, that seemed to work for a few days and now the site isn’t loading again. The screen that I get, when going to the URL says the following:

    This site can’t be reached
https://www.thecostumevault.ca’s server IP address could not be found.
Search Google for costume vault ca
    ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

and then offers to show a saved copy. I have been in contact with GeneratePress developer and there appears to be no reason why the theme or plugin should be causing the problem.

Just this evening, I turned off the theme and turned on 2020 but same error. Please keep in mind I am clearing my browser cache in between.

Ideas? It’s acting like I’m not connected to the internet.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • So, when I visit your link: https://www.thecostumevault.ca, I get redirected to https://thecostumevault.ca/ which displays a generic Plesk landing page (https://3cd.co/Jru7ZZ7W). Are you sure your site is configured properly for your SSL? What could be happening is your request to “https://thecostumevault.ca” may work fine (using port 80), but when redirecting to the “https” version, the server does not have a valid entry for the hostname using port 443 (HTTPS). This would result in a generic control panel landing page as shown.

I would reach out to you host to make sure everything is setup properly. You might also want to look at (if you haven’t already) installing Really Simple SSL (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/really-simple-ssl/) which is a good plugin to make sure your site loads on HTTPS (once you get it working).

Lastly, I would suggest changing your the A record you have in your DNS for https://www.thecostumevault.ca to a CNAME record. https://who.is/dns/thecostumevault.ca

Thank you so much for your response and ideas. I had reached our to my host and it would seem that for whatever reason the domain did not get renewed ??!!??

Anyway, that would have been a couple of hours of frustration and I’ve now looked after that little inconvenience so it won’t be happening again. Now that I got it working, I did some work on the them tonight for about an hour. I was about to shut it down for the evening and guess what?

Same thing only a different error this time.

thecostumevault.ca too too long to respond
    Try:

      Checking the Connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
      Running Windows Network Diagnostics

    ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

According to your response, you suggested 3 things.
    1. SSL Config – host says it is fine
    2. Really Simple SSL – I didn’t do this as I wanted you to confirm prior to too many changes at one time.
    3. Change A record in DNS – same as above, one thing at a time.

Finally, before I have completed writing this message, the site loaded again. Ugh. Might this have something to do with my ISP?

The site appears to be loading for me as well (refreshed a few times from different browsers). I’ve never gotten a browser/network error when trying to get to your site, only just the Plesk generic screen. ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT could be related to your ISP. I tend to double-check from my mobile phone (or use Wifi Hotspot) if I think it’s a network issue.

Domain not being renewed could also be a major factor. Propagation could be a factor if the domain’s DNS needed to be updated.

As for changing the A record, that shouldn’t affect anything, just make your DNS a tad more efficient.

Hopefully your issue if fixed, but feel free to post more info if you’re still having trouble.
