Hi, so I’m having an issue with my Woocommerce store, where the order of product categories is random every time I use a Sort By filtering. My theme developer says that this is a feature of Woocommerce, however I find it hard to believe as it makes no sense.

So, is this a feature or an issue with a theme/other plugins? Basically there is no option (according to my theme developer) other than using CSS to keep the order of product categories the same all the time whether I use Sort By filters (to filter products not categories) or not.

Hello @heggyy can you supply a screenshot of your widget that the developer used? So we can see where you’re at. Thanks.

If they have it set to Category Order that should be in Alphabetical order. However, your theme or something else may be conflicting. Here’s a screenshot of that widget.

Hey there, @heggyy! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

This can be different depending on your theme.

When you go to the Appearance tab on your dashboard, do you have access to the customizer or the Editor?

Do you mind also sharing some more details on the issue so we can get a better understanding?

If you can share some screenshots to show us, that would be great. I recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

Please, if possible, also share your website’s URL so we can take a look ??

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

Pretty sure I used this plugin to keep a set order of product categories.

However, when we added filters to the product archive (for filtering Price high-low etc) these categories changed order when you open up specific product categories. So the general product archive when clicking on “Store” was correct, but as soon as you clicked on specific product categories, the order changed.

My theme developer said that this is the default behavior of woocommerce (which I don’t believe). There is no reason as to why WC wouldn’t keep a specific category order that I have set from Customization and Product Categories.

The theme is Miini, link to e-shop. NB! The taxonomy plugin has been removed and category order has been set with CSS (by my theme author).

    Hello heggyy,

    Thank you for your reply.

You are right, WooCommerce does not influence the order of products on product archive pages.
This is something that the theme can do by using template files.

To confirm, have you figured out what is causing this behavior?
Is the CSS from the theme or something else?

You can also switch to a different theme to verify this.
Let me know about your findings. ??

    Best regards.

    Hi,

the order of products is not the issue, but the order of Product Categories.

These change when I use Filters (Sort By). The order of product categories changes to seemingly something random when I use Order By filters, according to my theme author this is normal behavior for Woocommerce.

    Hey, @heggyy!

I checked your website and was not able to see the issue you mentioned.

The categories kept the same order there even after I changed the “sort by” filter a couple times.

Do you mind sharing the exact steps you take to replicate the issue so we can take a look?

If you can share a screen recording of it it would be even better. You can you https://loom.com.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi,

As I previously mentioned: NB! The taxonomy plugin has been removed and category order has been set with CSS (by my theme author).

My initial question since the beginning has been: is changing the order of Product Categories (in any case) a feature of Woocommerce or not? Is the behavior that the order of Product Categories change a normal expected Woocommerce behavior?

    Hey, @heggyy!

is changing the order of Product Categories (in any case) a feature of Woocommerce or not?

By default, you can change the orders or the categories on Product > Categories. There’s a three-line icon next to each category, you can hold it and drag the category up or down to change the order.

Is the behavior that the order of Product Categories change a normal expected Woocommerce behavior?

It is not normal behavior. We were trying to understand exactly what is going on on your website to check if we can replicate it on our end, to confirm if the issue is with WooCommerce or not ??

    Have a wonderful day!
