random registration with no registration button

  • hi all i have taken my site offline cause i was getting random users registering to my site when there is no registration button. after taking the site offline im still getting random users registering.

    they are all weird names letters and numbers, how do i stop this and how could they be registering.

  • First be certain “Anyone can register” is un-checked at Dashboard > Settings > General. Having a Register button is not required in order for traffic to go to the registration URL.

    If you already have that setting un-check, then your site has been invaded and you will need to block that direct access to your database or wherever. BulletProof Security is the best plugin I happen to know about for securing all doors and windows, and then I would also change at least the password for the SQL user in wp-config.php and at the server (cPanel > MySQL) and then see what changes might take place.

    ok great thanks it was checked have unchecked and saved now so will see how future attempts go.
