From time to time, my client reaches out to tell me tax has not been collected on their orders. It’s usually due to Jetpack no longer being connected. I did not disconnect it, I thought maybe something happened when I updated the plugin, but that was 7 days ago and the automated taxes had been working until 2 days ago.

I have no idea why this happens. Is there anything I can do short of checking it every single day to make sure it’s still connected?

Can an email notification be sent from the site if it gets disconnected?

Here’s the URL. I’ve since reconnected it. I have no idea what causes it to disconnect, it seems to be random.

    Hi there,

Currently, the Jetpack is not connected/disconnecting intermittently because XML-RPC is not responding correctly. You can also see that this file is not loading correctly by loading it in your browser. It currently returns a “403 Forbidden” response. What we need is for this to be accessible so that Jetpack can communicate with the WordPress.com servers.

As a first step, I’d recommend disabling any security plugins you might have installed. I can see you have the SiteGround Optimizer plugin installed. If you have disabled XML-RPC using this plugin, I’d recommend enabling it.

It might also be possible that your hosting provider blocks access to this file. If you don’t find any plugin that may block access to the file on your site, I would recommend that you get in touch with your host.

Also, please find the IP ranges for the connection between your site and Jetpack/WordPress.com here, and whitelist them for HTTP connection on your site:

If you’re unsure about this, you may contact your hosting provider; they should be able to help you with this. Please note that these IP addresses could change (or more could be added) at any time. For that reason, we recommend your host uses the machine-readable versions of these IP ranges in JSON or plain text format to automate configuration changes on their systems.

Once we are able to access your site’s?xmlrpc.php file, you should be able to connect Jetpack to?https://wordpress.com.

Let me know how it goes!

I am using iThemes Security and did find that XML-RPC was disabled. Why then did it work properly most of the time, but just randomly disconnect?

I’ve enabled it now, hopefully that will fix the issue.

Do I need to whitelist the IP addresses as well or will enabling XML-RPC take care of it?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi @jodzeee

It may be that the settings just limited the XMLRPC connections and when the connections reaches a certain number of connections, it disconnects Jetpack.

I would still recommend allowlisting those addresses with your host.
