I’ve successfully sent ~20 shipments via USPS Ground Advantage with my current setup (WordPress 6.6.2, WooCommerce 9.3.3, WooCommerce Shipping 1.2.2). I’m now trying to mail envelopes via USPS First Class Mail. Everything appears to be going well, but when I try to purchase the label, I get an error message at the top of the page stating “Rate note found: First”. Any sense if this is a bug or a configuration issue?

Hi @chprpipr, sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. USPS First class is very reliant on maximum specific package dimensions and weight.

The maximum dimensions for a package to ship with First Class is 11.5in x 6.125in x 0.75in and the maximum weight is 13oz. You will also need to mark the package as a Letter.

Would you be able to share what your setup looks like when attempting to get First Class rates and make a purchase?

Sure thing! Thanks for the quick reply. Here is a screenshot of the label configuration I am trying to purchase.

Does that show you what you need to know? I’m getting rates successfully, but then I’m not able to complete the purchase.

Hey @chprpipr, we found a bug with this and are working on a fix.

The bug is isolated to using Saved Packages, for now if you want to work around this you can just use a Custom Package and ensuring the dimensions are not more than 11.5in x 6.125in x 0.75in and selecting the letter type, this is a bit more work since you will have to manually enter the custom details with every label you purchase, but we should have a fix ready for the next release.

We do apologize for any inconvenience this is causing.

Fantastic! Thank you for your help and for this great plugin. It’s a great help to our organization.

    Gerhard,

I am getting the same error; however, large envelopes (or flats) may be sent first class if max size is 15x12x3/4 and max weight is 13 oz or less. See https://www.usps.com/ship/first-class-mail.htm for verification. Will the fix include large envelopes?

    Thank you

@spi1199 Thanks for that correction, as mentioned we have a fix for this that will go out with the next release. The bug is only present in Saved Packages. For now you can work around this by creating a custom package for these items with every label purchase.

Can you confirm if you use a custom package with those dimensions you are still able to purchase a label for First Class?

Thank you for the quick reply. I tried creating a custom package but I still get the error message because my envelope is 12-1/2″ x 9-1/2″.

@spi1199 See my video below on how I was able to purchase First Class for the package with your dimension. When I say custom package I mean you should not save it, the bug happens when you save the custom package. A fix should go out Monday.

Thank you so much! I will try it on my next order.

    Sounds like a plan @spi1199.

Let us know how it goes.

    Cheers!

@chprpipr @spi1199 We just release version 1.2.3 which contains the fix for First Class purchases using saved packages.
