  • I’m having the exact same issue. I go through the process. I let the plugin have access to my Google Account. It gives my the access string. I paste it into the field and hit enter (as this seems to be the only option as everything is greyed out)

I hit save and WordPress tells me nothing has changed when I hit save.

    Please help!

    Thanks.

I’m having the exact same issue.

We’ve uploaded a beta zip with a fix here:

    https://yoast.com/downloads/google-analytics-for-wordpress-5.2.8-beta.zip

Please let me know if this fixes your problem.

I have the same issue and the fix doesn’t solve it.

    Having the same issue.

Yep, mine and my clients sites keep asking us to reauthenticate on a regular basis – it’s very tedious! Will try your beta zip fix omarreiss

Same here on several wordpress installations. This is the message in the dashboard:

Failed to fetch the new data from Google Analytics. Please reauthenticate on the settings page!

But there’s nothing wrong with the authentication as the analytics dashboard does function normally

I have downloaded the last version 5.2.8 and I have the same issue…

There were no changes to save, please try again.

I have activated the debug mode on my website for you.

I have only just started with this plugin and am experiencing the same phenomenon. I authentication w/ GA and although everything looks good from Google’s end I ultimately end up with the same ‘There were no changes to save, please try again’ message as Lo?c.

It’s such a shame that so many users are experiencing these issues (I am too), because this really is a fantastic, useful plugin for webmasters like me who aren’t experts at Google Analytics. It provides really effective shortcuts around some things in Analytics that would otherwise be pretty complicated and difficult to set up and manage. I hope they get it all sorted out soon.

It used to be a fantastic plugin. We have to start realizing that “great” plugins will always have updates and some updates can go horribly wrong (like with this one). Most have no way on testing it and in this case it not only started acting up but it crashed our site and had to uninstall it altogether. It’s a shame, but what can you do…updates come and updates go, good plugins come and good plugins go…

We are very sorry for the trouble many of you are experiencing. During the holidays, many of us were out, which set us back a bit in noticing and fixing this problem. The fix we released this week should’ve at least made sure the notice was only shown on the GA dashboards page. It should’ve also reduced the amount of times this error was being shown. Apparently it did not work out entirely as expected. If anyone is still seeing the notice outside of the GA dashboards page, please let us know here.

Currently we are working on a more comprehensive solution for the problem that has been described here. The code for this fix is already under review and we plan to release it early next week.

In response to the people who want to use our GA plugin only for adding the tracking code to their pages, we are also planning an option to completely disable the dashboards. Even though we think the dashboards are adding a lot of value to the plugin, we can understand that some users don’t want all the extra functionality. I hope we can ship the option to disable the dashboards with the next release but don’t pin me to it. Solving the issue with the reauthentication warning now has the highest prio.

Ok, so we’ve decided to make public beta’s a regular part of our release cycle. You can find the beta with a fix for this issue here:

    https://yoast.com/downloads/beta/google-analytics-for-wordpress-5.3-beta.zip

If everything goes well, we’ll do a stable release next week.

We’ve also added the possibility to completely disable the dashboards. If you disable them, the GA admin menu item also gets moved downwards since you’ll probably need it less often.

We’ve also written a blogpost on our ideas with regard to beta testing:

    https://yoast.com/public-betas-plugins/

    Hope this fixes your problem.

I get the same problem. I did actually uninstall the plugin at one point because of the error messages.

The questions that I have, which haven’t been addressed above are:

    1. If I get the error message that says I must re-authenticate with Google, do I really need to, or can I ignore the message?

    2. If I am getting the re-authenticate warning, does that mean that the stats that I am seeing in my dashboard are inaccurate, or can I take them as accurate?

I know the message is a bit annoying, but I actually don’t want to disable the dashboard as I want to get a quick snapshot of how things are going, so I’m prepared to rather ignore the error message. I do just need to know whether the stats that are showing in the dashboard are accurate or not though. The more annoying part is having to go through the re-authentication process again, but if the message is simply an error and the functionality is working, then at least I can skip that annoying part.

beta 5.3 fix the problem thanks.
