• Hey all,

I have recently moved my site design in a bit different direction. I have made the site in a more “magazine” style with “editions” which are actually one post, with multiple pages to simulate sub pages.

There are a few instances where this has downsides, like comments are for the whole edition and not just a singular story in that edition. Also the pages include page 1, which is a sort of intro page to that edition.

Other than that, I am fairly happy with it – this is my latest iteration of WP dating back a couple of years now.

Take a run through it and let me know what you think:

    Thanks!

  • I like it a lot. The index is short and sweet :>) and it is very readable. Good job.

The design is beautiful, clean, elegant.

Now I’m thinking aloud: couldn’t you use categories for “editions”? I mean you could name your categories ‘one, two, three… etc’ (and even play with the cat slug) and then define the category base for permalinks as “edition” – so you could end up with:
    example.com/edition/nine or example.com/edition/9
    Just a thought.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

moshu, you make a good point on the categories… I had thought along those lines once before, but I should probably think about it again, as you may have a point.

Nice one. Nothing to add. ??

Ok, I have re-thought the methodology a bit more, and decided that the route I was going was not ideal – moshu made a great point – and so now I have re-done things to be based on categories now.

The only thing I don’t like is that I get an extra section in my url structures now – when linking from the “wp_list_categories” based menu – while the actual urls are next to the root domain – toddlambert.com/edition10/

    So I have both toddlambert.com/editions/edition10/ and toddlambert.com/edition10/

I don’t thing that should raise any issues with duplicate content penalties.. but who knows.

Lastly, I have not found a good method for keeping just the last 5 categories listed for navigation. Using “wp_list_categories” there is no “limit=” so for now, I have to hand-code, using “exclude=” which totally sucks.
