    Hello All,

I just moved my domain to GoDaddy and tried to reinstall my old wordpress site there. I exported my MySQL & wordpress and have them, but am unable to reinstall them on GoDaddy because I don’t have a clue. When I imported my old blog into my new wordpress it worked (all my posts where there), but my layout and everything else was gone, including my permalinks. So non of my posts would open, and just went to a 404 page. I’ve asked GoDaddy for help reinstalling my site, but so far haven’t heard back and its been a few days. They don’t seem to know how to do this either.

If someone can give me instructions how to do this I would be very grateful. As it is I’ve installed and removed wordpress 5 times trying to make it work. I’m getting a bit frustrated and dizzy by all of this.

What other components do I need to put my site back together. I saw people mention PHP 5? And, someelse said I had to change passwords on MYsql after installation/importing???

    Thank you in advance,

    Clueless ??

Did you changed domain name and moved to a new server
OR did you just change the domain name? Either case, have you read this –

    Thanks Mercime,

I didn’t change my domain name, but did move to a new server. I read the file, thank you.

Today I went in and imported my old Mysql on my new server. I then changed the username/password to the new one. It looked like my files were there. I then went to my wordpress blog, but known of the old settings are there. I imported my old posts, but the style, plug-ins and everything is still missing and my permalinks don’t work.

So, I’m still not sure what I have to do to make it work. Any ideas? It seems my database and new blog are not connected somehow still.

    Thank you for your help.

How many imports did you make? Did you import the XML as well? You didn’t have to as all your posts are already in the database import.

but the style, plug-ins and everything is still missing and my permalinks don’t work.

When you made a backup per codex link above, you should also download your wp-contents folder which includes the uploaded media files as well as the theme and plugins. I also backup the oldwp-config.php and .htaccess file. You upload that wp-contents folder up to your new server.

Assuming that you already pointed the domain name to your new webhost server, you just needed to:
    1. upload the wp-contents folder you backed up from previous server to your new server,
    2. import the SQL database via phpMyAdmin in your new database,
    3. upload old wp-config.php (with new DB info) and .htaccess file to root or same spot where you uploaded the wp-content folder
(note- the htaccess file may or may not be successful depending on the server but usually if it’s WP friendly, it would work)
    4. log in your WP installation and
    5. run settings permalinks.

Thank you Mercime for all your help. I ended up going back to my old server where my old database is and everything is there and running, but now I’m having 500 errors, so will start a new topic post for that.

    Thank you!
