Re-sizing thumbnails?

Hello,
I am using the cyclone slider to act as a portfolio for my boss, and she really likes thumbnails which are much larger and more rectangular than the thumbnails which come with the plug-in. I have kind of figured out how to re-size the thumbnails by using css, but the pictures in the thumbnails are quite stretched due to being re-sized. Is there a way to modify the shape of a thumnail without stretching the image within the thumbnail? Thanks!
