Re-working the Olympic Blue theme

I’m trying to re-work the Olympic Blue theme to make room for advertising and take better advantage of the space at the top of the page.
When I try to insert advertising code into sidebar.php (immediately after the
</div>
after the search form tag and before<div id="sidebar1" class="sidecol">
I get this “extra” horizontal line that goes completely across the template just under the top of the ads. Can anyone enlighten me as to how to get rid of that line? So far I can’t find it in the code. If I remove the ad code the line goes away completely.The site is here:

p.s. Other mods are the color changes, border thickness, adding the Posts & Comments RSS links to sidebar1, moving the logo & description text into the header graphic area, adding the 468×60 banner at the top, swapping out two of the original graphics. I think that’s about it so far.
